Spring is in the air - Here in Sydney's West, we've almost reached the end of a supposedly, extremely cold winter!

The truth is, we've enjoyed many sunny days with clear skies, mild temperatures and some cracking sunsets. Certainly a pleasure compared to the long, damp and chilly winters in the UK!

Tip of the Month - Putting - Pace is Key - Whether you like to die the ball into the cup or you're an aggressive, 'back of the cup' type of player, it is important to be consistent with your putting pace.

This is an ideal drill for sharpening up your touch on the greens. I personally like to putt with enough speed for the ball to travel 40cm past the hole, if it were to miss. I feel this gives me the ideal balance between:

    1. Firm enough to hold it's line, not wobble away
    2. Slow enough to lip in rather that lip out

If your speed is consistent, you can read your putts more effectively too.

Jason's Day at US PGA - What a magnificent performance by Jason Day to win the US PGA Champs. Great to see another Aussie win a major title.

How fortunate are we to witness three young players compete at the highest level but also display such great sportsmanship? Spieth gives Day the 'thumbs up' on 17 and this tweet from McIlroy: "2 inevitable things happened today, @JDayGolf winning a major and @JordanSpieth getting to 1 in the world! Congrats guys!! Inspiring stuff!"

Improver of the Month - Young Ryan Cadle is just 10 years old. He has great enthusiasm for the game and a strong desire to improve.

In an effort to generate more clubhead, like many kids, he is prone to lift onto his toes during the swing. This move actually slows his body rotation through impact and affects his balance.

He's not there yet but is working on rotating his belt through to the target earlier and maintaining his posture and balance through impact.

Ryan is making great progress. In his first competition as a junior member of the club, he shot his lowest ever score of 95! breaking 100 for the first and winning the competition.

Hopefully, Ryan will carry what he's learning with him, for his entire golfing future. Good luck!

Eric Apperly Shield - Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club recently competed in this under-21 team competition.

We defeated Penrith, Royal Sydney and Avondale in our first three matches. Monash however, proved too strong and they were the unbeaten team to advance to the Quarter Finals.

The SRGC boys acquitted themselves admirably and were outstanding representatives for the club. They should be very proud.
